5 Elements Approach to Fitness

According to the five elements theory, everything in nature is made up of five elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. This is intended as an explanation of the complexity of nature and all matter by breaking it down into simpler substances. Understanding the theory behind these five elements of nature can help understand the laws of nature and to use this knowledge to achieve greater health and happiness.
Fitness has many aspects to it. Strength training, running, swimming, cycling, Yoga are a few means by which one can keep oneself healthy & young.
The 5 Elements Approach to Fitness
* Earth - Strength
Represents solidity and stability.
The skeletal system and the muscles provide a solid base to any movement. Deals with strength training.

* Water - Flexibility and Mobility
Represents fluid movement which is essential to move without friction.
Deals with the ability to adapt, bend, stretch and restore originality.

* Air - Balance and Awareness
Represents movement throughout the body. Any movement done with conscious awareness makes a ton of difference.
Deals circulation, nerve impulses. Movement of the joints and breath.

* Fire - Speed, Agility and Cardio
Represents light, heat and transformation.
Deals with rapid movement and builds cardiovascular endurance.

* Space - Outdoor training / Indoor training
Represents empty space where the other four elements come into play.
Deals with expansiveness ( expansive space ) and limited space, hence it signifies outdoor/indoor training.

Each element is associated with different structures and functions in our body. Strength Training & Yoga can be an effective means to control the five elements through specific exercises under proper guidance, asanas, pranayama and meditation.
Balance It Out
Working on each aspect as mentioned above would lead us to better physical and mental well-being. It is suggested that a good amount of physical activity be compensated with better and balanced food intake.
